Students from across Indiana participate in the 6th Indiana State You Be The Chemist Challenge on Saturday, April 29, 2017

On Saturday, April 29, 37 grade 5-8 students from across Indiana participated in the 6th Indiana State You Be The Chemist Challenge® at Pike High School in North West Indianapolis. The You Be The Chemist Challenge® is one of three programs of the Chemical Educational Foundation® which are designed to enhance K-8 science education by introducing the central role of chemistry in all the sciences and in our everyday lives.

These 37 students were the top students from Indiana Local You Be The Chemist Challenges held in February and March in South Bend, Kokomo, Muncie, West Lafayette, Indianapolis North, Indianapolis South, Bloomington and Evansville who advanced to the Indiana State Challenge.

After the three Preliminary and two Intermediate Rounds, the top four students advanced to the Semifinal Round and the top two went on to compete in the Championship Round. All the students who participated in the 2017 Indiana State Challenge received an Indiana You Be The Chemist Challenge medal and participation certificate and the top four students were awarded You Be The Chemist Challenge plaques, gift cards and winner certificates.

2017 Indiana State You Be The Chemist Challenge Winners

The Challenge Champion, Ameya Belamkar, advances to the 2017 National You Be The Chemist Challenge which will be held in Washington DC on June 19.

The Sponsors of the 2017 Indiana State Challenge were Dow Chemical, Dow AgroSciences, Superior Solvents and Chemicals and Mays Chemical. Pike High School hosted the Challenge.
